After a professional waxing session, you can expect some common reactions and sensations. Here’s what you might experience:
Redness: It’s normal for the waxed area to have some redness or irritation immediately after waxing. This usually subsides within a few hours to a day.
Sensitivity: The skin may feel more sensitive than usual, especially if it’s your first time waxing or if you’ve waxed a particularly sensitive area. Warmth or a tingly sensation to the skin is normal.
Slight swelling: Some minor swelling or even bumps can occur, but they should go down quickly. This is a normal histamine reaction. A hypoallergenic wax or wax for sensitive skin will help to minimize this reaction due to the lack of beeswax and rosin. Cirépil Boudoir or Cachemire are great options.
Smooth skin: You’ll notice that the waxed area is smooth and hair-free and will remain this way for weeks.
Hair regrowth: Depending on your hair growth cycle, you may start to see hair regrowth in about 3-6 weeks. After 3 consecutive waxing services, the full benefit of waxing will occur: less hair, softer finer hair, and longer duration with no regrowth.
It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your esthetician to ensure proper calming and to minimize any discomfort. If you experience any severe or prolonged reactions, it’s best to consult with your esthetician or healthcare provider.
Here’s a list of do’s and don’ts after waxing:
Do’s:
Wear loose clothing: Opt for loose-fitting clothes to prevent friction and irritation to the waxed area.
Exfoliate gently: After a few days, you can start exfoliating the area to prevent ingrown hairs. Use a gentle exfoliating scrub or a soft brush.
Apply aloe vera: Aloe vera gel can help soothe the skin and reduce redness and inflammation.
Apply post waxing home care: To prevent ingrown hair, irritation, and bumps, apply an ingrown hair product with salicylic acid as the active ingredient. Always follow the manufacturer’s directions.
Don’ts:
Avoid heat or steam: Avoid hot showers, hot tubs, or steam.
Hot water can irritate the freshly waxed skin. Stick to lukewarm water instead.
Avoid the sun: After waxing the skin is more sensitive to UV rays because the skin is freshly exfoliated. Skip sun exposure for 24-48 hours after waxing.
Don’t touch the waxed area: Avoid touching the waxed area unnecessarily to prevent introducing bacteria and causing infections.
Skip harsh products: Avoid using harsh soaps, perfumes, or exfoliants on the waxed area, as they can irritate the skin.
Following these do’s and don’ts can help you maintain smooth, healthy skin after a professional waxing session.
